Morecambe Bay Shrimps
Morecambe Bay potted shrimps are a traditional Lancastrian dish made with brown shrimp with mace in butter. Recipes are a closely guarded secret but some suppliers include cayenne pepper and nutmeg amongst other flavours. It is traditionally eaten with bread with the butter acting as a preservative.
Fishing for brown shrimp in Morecambe Bay's shallow waters has been undertaken over the year's in the traditional flat bottomed 'nobby' boat but also by tractors dragging nets. Shrimping boats have a boiler on board to get the catch quickly cooked and retain the flavours.
