Slow Food in Lancashire

Join us to promote great Lancashire produce!

Are you sick of eating the mass produced, tasteless food the majority of supermarkets sell you?

Wouldn’t you prefer to get your hands on some great tasting, locally sourced Lancashire produce?

Do you think more people should do the same?

Good, and so do we!

Fortunately for us, Lancashire is a county full of delicious foodie treats all waiting to be explored. It might be one of the many scrumptious varieties of Lancashire cheese we have, or a temptation to feast on our delectable Morecambe Bay shrimps; whatever you fancy, from succulent, fell reared meat to fresh, crunchy vegetables - Lancashire has it all!

The aim of Slow Food Lancashire is to promote these businesses and to ensure good, clean and fair produce is a right for everyone. Along the way we'll also be exploring and celebrating some of our county's fantastic food heritage, with some really interesting and exciting events, and we’d love you to come with us and share the experience.

When we lead busy lives it might not always be convenient to go out and source good, local and nutritious produce. However, if we could all start making some small changes to our shopping habits it could have a great and positive impact for the local community, and be the start of a much more sustainable future.

There are many simple ways you can start to contribute; whether it's signing up for a local box delivery scheme, shopping at your local farmers market, popping down to buy from your local butcher or cooking a few more meals from scratch. You'll probably find that you're eating much tastier, healthier meals and saving money.

About Slow Food

Slow Food is an international, member-supported movement which came into existence in the late 1980s to counteract the effects of fast living, fast food and people’s declining interest in the food they eat. Everyone is linked by the need to eat, yet too often the true pleasure of good food is forgotten. Countless recent news items report on the rise of convenience foods and the decline of knowledge about food and cooking, highlighting the need for us to get back to basics. In essence, Slow Food encourages people to slow down and start thinking more about where their food is coming from.

Within the UK there are over 55 active local groups, organising an exciting and varied programme of events to reconnect people with the food they are eating, how it is produced, why it tastes so good, how to cook it and the people that are producing, selling or cooking it. Slow Food, along with the local grassroots members, is working to increase awareness of the sustainability and fairness of food systems in a fun, interactive and often delicious way!
